Dangerous Conflict of Interest

I wish to express appreciation for my attorney, Victoria N. as she is one of the most unselfish, caring, and Christian women I had ever known, and where many attorneys might take advantage of suffering people, she fights to protect her clients from injustice.

So, any problems I speak of involving attorneys should be understood not to apply to all attorneys -- just those who take advantage of people.

People are told to trust their attorneys.  This makes sense because the legal landscape is complicated.  Since you and I have not been to law school and we do not have years of experience arguing cases, it makes sense when someone says the person who represents himself has a fool for an attorney.

We need legal representation.  We feel entitled to it. We feel dependent upon it.

But consider these things:

  • Divorce attorneys are not usually paid to win your case. They’re paid to burn hours.  They are not paid on contingency. They’re paid hourly.
  • If your attorney can burn time lending a sympathetic ear, that is money.
  • If your attorney can guarantee return business by losing your case, he or she may do so.
  • Would you want to trust your child’s custody to this kind of attorney?
  • Would you want to trust all your property to this kind of attorney?
  • Would you want to trust your future income and credit to this attorney?

If you would sacrifice all including your life savings to protect your children from falling into the wrong hands, chances are your attorney and your spouse’s attorney know this well, and they may be very happy to cooperate to make sure that your children go to the spouse least likely to fight for them just so that there will be plenty of return business for both of them.

Divorce law is really that treacherous.
